Nicola Zaccheo was born in Acquaviva delle Fonti (BA) on 1967.
After graduating in Physics from the University of Bari he completed his education with advanced training courses in Italy and abroad, among which International Business, Business
Management and Management Control.
On October 19th 2020 he was appointed President of the Transport Regulation Authority.
On 24th January 2019 he was appointed President of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority by decree of the President of the Republic.
As President of ENAC, he also chaired the inter-ministerial Committee for the safety of air transport and of airports (CISA), through which ENAC carries out its tasks as the only Italian
Authority responsible for the coordination and control of the implementation of safety measures.
Previously he was Chief Executive Officer of several private companies within the aerospace industry, including SITAEL SpA, ALTA SpA, Aurelia Microelettronica Spa and Caen Aurelia Space srl.
He held the position of Member of the Executive Board of DTA – Technological Aerospace District in Apulia (Italy) and was Member of the Executive Board of the Italian Association of Space Industries (AIPAS).
He also was Deputy President of the International Astronautical Federation Satellite Commercial Applications Committee and Member of the Policy Committee of the European Space Industries Association (Eurospace).
In addition, he was Associated Researcher at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics in Italy and Physics Technicians at California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles (USA).
Over the years he developed a strong background and multi-year experience in several areas.
As a public manager, he has developed skills in regulatory systems, charging and certification systems of the major European and International Authorities of Civil Aviation, as well as in the
EU framework about safety regulation, quality service and passengers’ rights, even related to other transport sectors.
Furthermore, he acquired knowledge of the regulated markets, both national and EU level, of rules on competition, fair competitiveness and the industrial mechanisms of the regulated companies.
He acquired a considerable experience in managing complex International Programs in the fields of Aviation, Aerospace and Rail, both in public and private sectors.
He dealt with development and definition of regulatory standards for innovative transport systems, both air and land (e.g. unmanned aerial vehicles, hypersonic aircrafts, high-speed trains).
He managed programs for high technological projects, from the development of advanced infrastructures for the modernization of air traffic management to the development of missions, applications and space services, with particular reference to small satellites, constellation of satellites and space propulsion systems.
As a private manager he experienced business management of small, medium and large companies and promoted business activities in the aerospace industry, introducing disruptive concepts in technologies, processes, products and services.
